For Adoption, Asher!

Meet Asher! Asher was discovered in an overcrowded shelter in Indiana. With the cooperation of the shelter ABCR was able to pull this sweet boy and get him into a foster home!

So what do we know about Asher? He is good with most other dogs, we have found he can be a pushy, rude, teenager, so he needs to be with dogs who are understanding, or a human who feels comfortable reminding Asher of what his place in the world is.

He is good with cats and seems to be ok with livestock as well.

He is good with children, but mouthy, so we are recommending older children, 10+

He takes treats gently and shows no signs of resource or food guarding.

He is a little guy, at only about 65 lbs (could be around 70 with a little more weight) and we are guesstimating him to be LESS then a year.

So, now that you know the good stuff about Asher, lets highlight on some areas where he needs improvement. We don’t think he ever lived in a house, his foster is working with him on housebreaking and crate training. On a happy note, he is taking to house training very well.

He has a negative association with being grabbed by his collar, we don’t know if he was corrected harshly, or if someone would grab his collar then scold him, but he pulls away and seems fearful. No aggression.

He is slow to warm up to strangers, again, no aggression, we just don’t think he was socialized very well, if at all.

So lucky for Asher his foster is a trainer. He has been working with Asher daily in manners, socialization, and basic training.

Asher is being foster in Michigan.

Meet Chanti!

Chantai is a harlequin 3 year old female with natural ears. She is a purebred Beauceron. She is housebroken, excellent in a crate and good with other dogs as long as she is given proper introductions. She has basic obedience and walks well on a leash, but we recommend her new owner be dedicated to continuing her training. She is a smart girl who needs a chance to use her brain! She will chase cats if they run, but backs right down if they sass back at her. We are comfortable adopting her out to a home with kitties as long as the new family will introduce properly! She likes her privacy when she eats, her foster feeds her in a crate and when other dogs approach she will growl at them. Chantai’s human foster can take food, toys, bones away from her without issue. Chantai is being spayed next week so we will start to accept applications on her. She is being fostered in CA.

Isabeau3

Isabeau

Isabeau is a beautiful French import girl who just arrived at her new foster home on June 10th. More info on her as we get to know her! But in the meantime her foster mom says “Picked up Isa on Sunday the 10th. She is slowly adjusting to life here. She has never been in a house before so that is new for her. Still finding out what her quirks are but so far none to bad. She gets along fine with my male beauce but still not sure about the female kelpie. Does have a great interest in the feral cats here and will need work on that.
She loves water and a little swimming at the pond, but not from a water hose, comes when called and knows a little obedience.
She has a body shape more like a rottie heavy boned, but has to lose a lot of weight. Her height might be around 24.5″ Can not even feel her ribs. So she gets a lot of exercise with Ouran running with us and the atv. She does not bother the cows or the horses which is good.” She is the black and tan pictured laying down. Being Fostered in CA.

Look who’s back on the market!

Why it’s everybody’s favorite Beauceron mix, Dexter! We announced a couple weeks ago that Dex was adopted, so what the heck happened, you might ask? Whenever a new dog is brought into the family we always recommend you give them plenty of time to adjust, let them eat and enjoy bones on their own, or in their crate. Unfortunately Dexter was fed him in the kitchen with the other dogs, and he growled. So the poor guy didn’t even get 24 hours to adjust to a new home. His foster went and picked him up that very day. We decided to treat him like a “new” dog to the rescue program and re evaluate him. His foster tells me he is as wonderful this time around as he was the first one. She sent me videos of her being near him and interacting with him while he ate. No problems. She sent me videos of him eating with another dog near him. He doesn’t snap or growl, but does quicken his eating and stiffen in body posture. So, we recommend, he be fed separately, or in his crate. We welcome any potential adopters to ask myself, or his foster questions. We don’t want Dexter bounced around, so it’s VERY important to us that anyone interested in him chat with us about any concerns they might have. Ok, so now that the “bad” news is out of the way, lets talk about the good stuff! Dexter is a happy go lucky guy, good with all people and children. He LOVES playing with other dogs, and we would LOVE for him to have a doggie buddy to play with. He is housebroken, crate trained, rides well in a car, and walks nicely on a leash. He has had several months professional training with his current foster, so has all basic obedience commands. At just 7 months old Dex is a typical busybody puppy, but is very food motivated and eager to please. Dexter is neutered, and up to date on his vaccines.

Dex’s ideal family would be an active one! He is a busy boy who would LOVE a human to continue training with. Rally? Agility? Nosework? This is your pup! He is a Beauceron mixed with Lab, and has natural ears and no double dews. He is a little guy at 55 lbs.

Hi, I’m Wilbur the big puppy dog. I’m a ONE year old Beauceron. Sometimes people see me and think I’m sooo scary because of the way I look, but I’m such a happy and friendly guy. When Len, Nicole and Kyla (that’s my foster dad, my foster sister and my sister from another mother) picked me up, I just jumped into the van and licked Nicole right on the face. I love to lick (faces, toes, fingers, ears…you get the picture). Wilbur is located in Ontario, Canada.

*What is a courtesy listing? Courtesy listings mean the dog does NOT belong to the American Beauceron Club Rescue, it means they are still with their owners or breeder, and not in danger. ABCR will put potential interested parties in contact with the dog’s guardian. We do not help sell dogs or puppies. A reasonable rehoming fee usually applies (often the cost of vaccinations and altering is considered a reasonable rehoming fee.) Because these dogs do not belong to the American Beauceron Club we often have limited information about them. Again, please contact us so we can connect you with the dog’s current owner/breeder/guardian.

Bella

Bella

Bella – Bella was surrendered by her owners who found themselves overwhelmed when they purchased a pair of littermates. She was adopted out to first time Beauce owners who adore her! I asked them recently how Bella was doing, here is what they said.

Bella Vita, formerly Hanji, rescued us in July 2015 after our black lab mix, Hamburgers, passed away from bone cancer. The ABC rescue and Bella’s foster family were very helpful in facilitating everything she needed to fly from South Carolina to Maine. Bella’s foster Dad told us that she was a Velcro dog that loves to kiss and he wasn’t exaggerating. Bella has been the perfect addition to our family and we couldn’t ask for a sweeter pooch. Although she doesn’t hold any certifications, her biggest accomplishment was learning how to climb/not be afraid of stairs. The first few weeks we had her she wouldn’t climb the stairs in our house so we brought the mattress from our spare bed down to the living room and took turns sleeping with her at night. She is such a blessing and we couldn’t possibly love her more. We are very thankful to the ABC rescue and her foster family. We hope to rescue another Beauceron from the club someday.

Artemis

Artemis

Artemis – Artie was surrendered by her owners at just 10 months of age for being shy and frightened of strangers. With a little bit of patience and lots of training from her foster mom and current owner she had a complete transformation!

Artemis, an 11 month old female, came to her forever home in February 2016. We jumped into socialization, obedience and nosework training. She is now my mobility service dog, as well as the first beauceron to title in NACSW (National Association of Canine Scent Work) Nose Work, where she qualified in all three odors. Her formal name is Lesya the Huntress du Chateau Rocher CGC CGCA CGCU SD NW1. We hope to add nosework, rally, and obedience titles in our journey together. She is an outstanding ambassador for the breed both locally and as we travel the USA and Canada in an RV a third of the year. Thank you, ABCR, for allowing my life to be blessed by this gorgeous, loving beauceron.

Yoshi – Yoshi was pulled from a high kill shelter as a 5/6 month old puppy, this beautiful Beauce mix boy was found in an abandoned house and brought to a shelter by the animal control officers. They contacted Beauceron rescue and we were able to place him with his perfect human! Here is what she what to say.

Yoshi is the greatest, he was adopted in October of 2016 by a dog trainer. Yoshi now teaches all of the trainer’s basic and advanced obedience classes and lessons and is a model student. He is a quick learner and loves to be involved in everything from obedience to agility to retrieve. The best part about Yoshi though is how much he loves everything. People, dogs , and children of all ages, Yoshi greets everyone with a lick.
